On May 14th 2018, PIPE and University of Southern Denmark are hosting a symposium with Professor Miranda Rose, La Trobe University, Melbourne, and Dr. Erin Godecke, Edith Cowan University, Perth from 10-16.15 in room O77 at University of Southern Denmark in Odense.
The symposium contains the following two workshops:
The role of impairment based therapy in rehabilitation by Dr. Erin Godecke
This workshop aims to encourage speech pathologists and speech pathology students to engage in evidenced based very early aphasia therapy for people with aphasia. It will provide a brief overview of mechanisms of recovery following brain injury and will disentangle the concepts of restitution, substitution and compensation as they relate to aphasia therapy and recovery in your caseload.
Constraint and multimodal approaches to aphasia rehabilitation v. prof. Miranda Rose
This workshop will focus on results and experiences from the ongoing COMPARE trial investigating and comparing the two different multi-modal therapies for people with chronic aphasia multi-modal aphasia therapy (M-MAT) and constraint induced aphasia therapy (CIAT) with usual care. The workshop will draw on Miranda’s more than 20 years of work and research in gestures and other multi-modal approaches.
